On Ayurveda mission to Hollywood

Mahe, Kerala, India:

At this time the whole world is looking for healing therapies, which are natural, non, invasive and without side effect more and more people turn to Ayurveda after “Yoga”, which strengthen the body and mind. It is the turn of Ayurveda, which is far deeper as a healing therapy.

Now it is the turn of Hollywood to turn to Ayurveda, which for a long long time is the capability enhancer for performers, both for stage and martial artists.

Yoga known to the west is one among the eight branches of yoga, that includes elaborate systems for living, diet and also breathing techniques. If Yoga postures are found to be so benefiting, Ayurveda will be of deeper interest to the actors and creative artists.

Robin Sheldon an ayurveda enthusiast from the Los Angeles, USA, is on a mission to initiate the bigwigs of Hollywood into ayurveda. It is a humble bid by an enterprising American to introduce ayurveda as a natural alternative for those who generally prefer quick remedies.

A talent agent in the field of motion picture and television, Robin Sheldon plans to establish a ‘Healing Retreat Centre’ of ayurveda in the Caribbean by next year to assist her colleagues and friends in the Hollywood, who, in her opinion, would be greatly benefited by such a facility.

Robin, who learned yoga for 11 years under yoga master Yogi Bhajan, is now undergoing a practical session in ‘Panchakarma’ at Greens Ayur Hospital and Physiotherapy Centre, Azhiyur, as part of her ongoing 18 month course at the Ayurveda Institute of America (AIA), Florida.

By setting up the ayurveda centre, Robin wants to help those who are ready to test the efficacy of the traditional Indian system of medicine. “I want to inspire them to adopt the ayurveda medication. The proposed centre will provide ayurveda treatment with the help of experts from India,” says Robin Sheldon.

Robin says that her countrymen are largely unaware of the long-term positive effect of ayurveda treatment.

"People in the US want quick fixes, a habit which takes them to endless medications. Unlike allopathy, ayurveda goes into the heart and soul. It helps one to live gracefully," says Robin.

“In California, all are keen to be young and beautiful and they undergo cosmetic surgery to preserve beauty. But I have found ayurveda effective for that purpose too. California is a trend-setting state and if it accepts ayurveda, the rest of the country will follow suit,” says Robin.

As a student of ayurveda, she is doubtful regarding her ability to master ayurveda within a short period. “Ayurveda is so vast a subject. But, I feel myself to be a student for life,” says Robin, who is visiting India for the first time. Robin also plans to publish a coffee table book on ayurveda treatment.
