TIT BITS
Ayurveda believes that personal beauty has three expressions, each of them inseparably bound to the other.
- Outer beauty or Roopam
- Inner beauty or Gunam
- Lasting beauty or Vayastyag
Roopam is what the world sees, your outward appearance. Your daily bath, your cleaning routine, your make-up; these are all roopam enhancers.
Ayurveda knows make-up works wonders for roopam, but advises you to rethink the ingredients. Feed your skin the way you feed your body-that is, never apply anything on your skin that you would not also eat. New scientific evidence now corroborates the ayurvedic theory that your skin actually drinks what you apply on its surface and that harsh chemicals can seep right into the delicate inner layers.
Therefore it is vital that you use only those skin care products that are perfectly pH balanced, safe to apply and not too dry. In keeping with its edible cosmetics theory, ayurv eda beauty brews use ingredients like rose petals, milk and turmeric.
Gunam, the second pillar of beauty is about inner radiance. What good is painting the door of the house, when the insides are in a state of ruin?
The key to gunam is of great personal health. If your digestive fires burn bright and your heart beats in rhythm, your face and your skin will reflect that inner sense of well being. That is, once you are imbued with ‘gunam’ you will automatically be a picture of ‘roopam’. Gunam generating tips include: -
Sleeping well: Long, long before modern medicine discovered the circadian rhythms, Ayurvedic ‘rishis’ were following them. Their daily routine was in rhythm with their sleep-wake cycle. The rule of thumb was sleep early and wakes up early for glowing skin.
Start your day with a stewed apple. Just quarter the apple, and poke one clove into each section. Bring to a boil, simmer and discard the cloves before you eat the stew. Apple enhances the aura and luster of your skin.
Ayurveda says true beauty defines chronology. It beats back the forces of stress and refuses to age socially or psychology.
